Someone has a detailed how-to about making LED sets that display Pac-Man and a ghost on bike wheels: http://us.gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/doityourself-led-bike-wheels-159380.php

So starting tonight we’re going to try doing some online BF2 Gaming.

BF2sdays we’ll call it. 😉

Game: Battlefield 2 (No Special Forces tonight)
Day: Tuesday March 7th, 2006
Time: Starting 9pm.
Meet: Yahoo Group Chat Room.
Flag: [gc] (we thought [< |>] would be neat for ‘clan panic’ but BF2 doesn’t allow HaxorSpeak.

We’ll meet at around 9pm. Start gaming around 9:15. Go for an hour — hour and a half. Once we’ve chosen a server we’ll post it as a message before joining. That way if anyone shows up late they’ll know where we went.

—

Have another game you’d like to play? Setup a meeting! 🙂 I know there are a ton of WOW players out there. Later all.

Some of us are interested in playin’ some BF2 tonight. Please check out the Yahoo group if you want to join in. If I’m going to play I’ll sign in shortly after 10:00pm. Battlestar takes priority. Sorry!

And the response:

Adam,

Thank you for your inquiry!

The price of your MAME cabinet as outlined below would be $1195.00.

We build all our cabinets from scratch to your specifications. We use a textured paint on the exterior surfaces, and a laminate surface on the outer upper sides of the cabinet as well as the control panel surface. Your cabinet will include a plexiglass monitor bezel and plexiglass marquee with backlight. The cabinet has a master power switch that controls all power, including a powerstrip for the video display and CPU. We use professional quality parts in all respects. The arcade joysticks and buttons are certified for over 10 million cycles.

Once again, thank you. If I can answer any other questions for you, please do not hesitate to ask. I am glad to answer them. If you’re ready to get your order started, please let me know. I’ll get the order submitted and the parts ordered so we can get your cabinet out to you as soon as possible.

Best,

Mark

With all of the options I ordered on this bad boy I’d say this is a pretty good deal. Throw an old computer inside and you’re golden.

The folks at the Twin Cities-area MPGD Yahoo group are having a LAN party on March 18th. MPGD is a loose-knit group of people I met earlier this year at work, who take turns hosting LAN parties about 3-4 times a year. These guys are cool, have fun, and usually pull in a decent amount of people.

Here’s the info, straight from my email:

“I’ve been working to get our basement done in time for MPGD #26, and
guess what? Its done! Last weekend Chris and I hauled over all the
chairs and tables just to make sure everything would fit, and it
looks great, we even have room to spare (so invite everyone you know
and spread the word). Consider this the official announcement for
MPGD #26.

Event: MPGD #26
When: Saturday March 18th, 2006, Noon until whenever
Where: J.C. & Kathy’s House, 4345 Wild Meadows Dr, Medina, MN, 55340
Phone: 763-783-8270 (H)

Games: I’d like to play some Alien Swarm (UT2004 mod) until we get
more than 8 people showing up, then we can switch to AoE III, Star
Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, UT2004 Invasion for a few rounds
(maybe we’ll beat it yet), AvP2, Counter-Strike: Source, BF2, and
for those of you who bought it and brought it last time, but we
didn’t play it, Serious Sam II. We’ll probably close out the night
with some Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon. Of course, if there is some
killer new game out, especially one that is cooperative multiplayer,
then mention it so we can talk.

What everyone should bring:
Your gaming PC, configured ready to plug into a network, software
already installed and ready to go, network cable, power strip,
batteries for your cordless keyboard/mouse, headphones, head-mounted
microphone for voice enabled games (yelling works too, but remember
everyone has headphones, and your enemies can hear you yell). And
finally don’t forget to bring a small donation for snacks, pop,
food, etc (which is usually, and probably will be agian, provided by
Chris).

When I need from you:
Small switches or hubs for each room (just need a few, I have a
gigabit backbone and switch already, and one 16-port and one 4-port
switch but we might need one big switch for the main area, I also
have a signal-boosted 802.11b/g Linksys WiFi hub too, so wireless is
okay), volunteers for game servers, and volunteers willing to make
try-n-buy versions of any of the software we’ll be playing. I’ll
host a web-server and file-share for all the game patches, mods,
etc, buf I need people willing to take ownership of a game and come
early with all the patches and everything ready to setup on the file
server.

Hope to see you all there!

-J.C.”

So, go sign up for the Yahoo Group ‘mpgd’, tell them Jon Jackson sent you. They are a welcoming bunch. If your not comfortable doing that, but want to come along, email me at jjackson@worldstop.com and I will let J.C. know to hold you a space.
