Roy Taylor of Nvidia gave an interview to Eurogamer. One of the things the interview touched on was PC gaming vs. console gaming.

The console is now a baseline. If you look at Gears of War or Assassin’s Creed, they came out on console and they were great experiences – but the PC versions had additional aspects to them that also made them attractive, whether you owned the console version or not. The PC version was better. That’s something that people need to get their heads around – the console is a baseline, the PC is going to be an improved version. That’s an exciting future, and that’s why I don’t see anything threatening about console at all.

“Miy-a-what-oh?”, you ask. “What the heck is that?”

Continuing in this week’s trend of drudging for articles regarding the innovators and creators of video games I came across an excellent read about Miyamoto. In case you didn’t know, Shigeru Miyamoto is the creator of such classics as Donkey Kong, Mario Bros. and Zelda. What you might not know is that he also invented the Wii.

In the West, chances are that Miyamoto would have started his own company a long time ago. He could have made billions and established himself as a staple of entertainment celebrity. Instead, despite being royalty at Nintendo and a cult figure, he almost comes across as just another salaryman (though a particularly creative and happy one) with a wife and two school-age children at home near Kyoto. He is not tabloid fodder, and he seems to maintain a relatively nondescript lifestyle.

Give it a read.

Donkey Kong! How High Can You Get?

In the phat sidebar on this site you have probably notice and inordinate amount of clutter. That aside, there is a lot of really cool stuff there. We’ve broken out the links on the site into 4 categories:

  • Find Build Shop – For your Arcade and Video Game Hunting Needs
  • GridCycle Endorsed – People we like and sites we think you should visit.
  • Play – Links to sites with free emulators, playable games, etc.
  • Worst Evah! – The crappiest gaming sites you have ever seen on the web.

Additionally, we’ve recently added a bunch of links and weeded out some that were no longer there or uninteresting. I hope you’ll check them out and send suggestions. If you’re an admin… you just have permission. If you want to be an admin… let me know.

A Washington area company is opening a chain of video game centers across the state. The centers are unique that instead of Arcade games they contain consoles.

Palmer Township resident Mark Dressel started the business in March. His William Penn Highway center features 25 Xbox 360 consoles and two Nintendo Wiis. Customers pay hourly fees to play more than 150 games at the center, which also holds regular video game tournaments.

In the Twin Cities we have a restaurant called Chatterbox (two locations) that has couches, board games and a variety of consoles for your entertainment. At the Chatterbox the only admission fee is that you buy food and/or drinks and that you trade a valid ID for the game you want to play.

Long live console gaming!

As you sit in your basement pounding away on your keyboard and yelling at your level 20 character, you realize that it might be easier to play if you could see all of the scribblings you’ve retained to help you in your quest of total domination. “Gosh,” you say to yourself, “…wouldn’t it be cool if I had something to provide a clear view on my otherwise unreadable handwriting?” That blank stare gradually turns to a cartoon bubble floating above your head with a dimly lit bulb illuminating the path to your eventual victory. This week we intend to show you the light. We give you…
