I thought this was a joke at first… It looks like an iPod or a remote for the new Front Row feature on the iMac. I did some research and the following is an actual representation of the remotes to be sold with the Nintendo Revolution…

It looks like ergonomics took a hike.

Sounds like you don’t have the entire story. Watch this teaser video…

In certain games, the controller is used like a wand. Hope it works out. Other attempts at this type of controller have failed.
Well, assuming that isn’t just advertising weirdness. A commercial does not necessarily show actual functionality.
Besides, the biggest problem with that idea is that the controller is going to have to be using radio, but if that’s the case why put an IR port on the front and show the user having to point at the base to turn it on and off?
It may have both.
It’s likely that the revolution has an IR port for on off functions but for gaming functions may rely on RF.
That video is awesome. By “It looks like ergonomics took a hike.” I didn’t mean that it didn’t look like it would work or anything. It just looks like they were not thinking ergonomically when they invented this thing. If the games are all played as depicted then it would be ergonomically sound. However, if the Revolution follows through with the rumor that you will be able to play all Nintendo titles previously offered then you will likely have to turn the thing on it’s side to play games like Super Mario or Donkey Kong thus making it not so ergonomic. But who cares about ergonomics? If we did I wouldn’t touch my Atari 2600. And I love that little beast.
