My Mame project is essentially done.  Well… I can still do some cosmetic things, and I would like to find better Mame front-end software… but we have a working unit.  Below is the finished product (click for bigger).  This picture is looking inside, when I was nearly done.

So what you are looking at is a mini-itx MB, 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, a 125 Watt Pico-PSU, a regular 3.5 Hard Drive, an exhaust fan… all jammed inside of a Slikstik controller.

Care to test this mother out this weekend? WOW. Great job, Zoyx! It’s so big yet so compact! I’m loving it! I’m rubbin’ around on it! Wait. Uh…

    Question: Does that monitor swivel?

Yep, that monitor rotates… rather easily. In the construction photo, I was using a widescreen monitor. Widescreen doesn’t work that well with these games. The final picture has a regular 4:3 19″ monitor, rotated to portrait view.

About this weekend, depends on how full it gets. Might be able to make room. We’ll see.

Zoyx: Are you happy with the trackball on your slickstick during MAMEplay? At CONvergence there was this dude named Jesse Richardson that built his own slickstick style control panel and mounted it on a sturdy stand. The stand was easily disassembled and also easily stowed. Ideal for bringing along to video gaming parties and the like. He didn’t put a trackball in his control panel. His reasoning was that many games like Golden Tee require a fair amount of “hammering” and real estate for successful use. I’m interested in whether or not it works well with Marble Madness and games like X/O Football or 10-Yard Fight.

The track ball is fine. The trackball in my slikstic and the trackballs that was were in my Marble Madness machine were interchangable. The tough part is getting the windows drivers and the Mame config set so they match the arcade experience.

I have played Golden Tee on this, and it works fine. But if a “pro” golden tee player were to try it, I am sure he could notice some problems.

I do have a second trackball… should try and get that Atari X/O football game working.

That would rule. The ATARI X/O Football game is sought after in collector circles. It’s a fairly rare game to obtain in the wild. I’d love to play it again.
