Over the weekend I completed two projects related to my gaming addictions. My wife was out of town so I had a lot of free time. Taking my lead from Jesse Richardson’s homemade TV/Console stand I built one of my own in the shape of an Arcade machine. It has a Radio Shack auto-sensing video switch, allowing me up to 5 simultaneously connected Consoles. So far, I’ve got just a 1st generation Sega Genesis and an original NES hooked up. Whichever one is powered on is displayed. Click the photos to enlarge.
My second project, was to organize my closet better so that I could have easy access to all of my gaming crap. I went to Home Depot and bought some poplar and some mounting brackets, grabbed my laser level and went to town. Last night, Heather and I went to Target to get some more storage bins. Now I’m able to get at all of my games and controllers more easily–and when the doors are closed it looks more like an office in my office.

Very nice, and inspirational. I need to do something like that for all of my crap.
Thanks! I needed to do something with all those NES carts. The Bloomington Play N Trade has caused me to double my collection over recent months. And to top it off after their successful sale last week, they made the main bin for used in the store permanently 50% off.
The mini rack for my TV and consoles is going to get primed and painted this weekend. I’m ordering Donkey Kong or Galaga side-art for it and adding cup-holders.
I primed the cabinet last night. Tonight it gets at least the first coat of it’s final paint. I’m also going to pickup some weather stripping to use on the back brace so the TV’s back is not resting on the bare painted wood.
