The Atari 2700, with wireless controllers, never reached the market.  An ex-employee of Atari is placing an Atari 2700 prototype on ebay.  Current price of $1500 as I type, with over 4 days remaining. Here is the Wikipedia entry for the 2700.  This made me laugh…

The 2700 was set for release, and even had ads made for it. Everything seemed ready for the system’s launch, but one problem destroyed its chances. The controllers had a working radius of 1000 ft; this meant the 2700 could affect nearby 2700s, as well as other remote controlled devices, such as garage doors and TVs.

That is so bloody cool! It reminds me of this Atari commercial. Pay attention to all of the “soon there’ll be” segment toward the end. Remote control joysticks that never came out to my knowledge.

The remote control joysticks did come out, just very limited. Bulky and heavy, due to shielding. Lousy battery life as well. So not very popular. .. http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.html?SystemID=2600&ControllerID=27

I never did the research I guess I just assumed they never came out! So that’s cool. I kind of wish I had a set just to see how bad they really are.
