I am looking forward to trying this. Can I get an SDHC card at Microcenter? Are they as cheap as USB?
I just bought a 16GB SDHC card on Amazon for $36. 32GB SDHC cards are still prohibitively expensive. Microcenter should be competitive with amazon.
To get the good prices at Microcenter, you have to snag the house-brand ones by the cash registers. I snagged an 8 gig MicroSDHC for my phone for $20, and a 4gig for my DS for $10. They work great!
So… does this update offer to remember your payment deets after you spend 5 minutes entering them? Silly Nintendo…
After reading through the notes on the update, this came to mind…
Y’know, the other two consoles have it all over MS when it comes to storage. Nintendo lets you store whatever you want on SD cards, Sony fully supports users putting any size 2.5″ SATA drive in their PS3 that they want, but MS dings users $50 for a 512mb card, or $150 for a 120gb drive. Both of which are proprietary connectors and formats.
And here everyone balked at Nintendo only putting 512 megs of internal storage on the Wii… three years later, the Wii is capable of larger capacity than 60% of XBox 360s out there.
The world needs and “open” gaming console from one of the big three. So any dope can make a homebrew game for the console. Also the ability to use off-the-shelf hardware would be cool.
Curious to see what the Wii homebrew community will do in reaction to this update.
While not the “open console” approach you’re talking about (ain’t nobody gonna bite on that one after the Phantom nonsense), you may be interested in something that detaches games from hardware entirely…
Reports from people I personally know and trust that used it on the show floor at GDC this week report that yes, it does indeed work just as they claim. This could revolutionize everything… hopefully.

A rundown of what the homebrew scene sees in this update… http://hackmii.com/2009/03/system-menu-40-rundown/
I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about OnLive. If it works I think it’ll be really sweet. If it works. I wonder how they’ll deal with network latency.
