As many of you already know, Punch-Out was released on the Wii today! You can now fight all new battles with many of the foes you remember from the NES days–including Don Flamenco shown here to the left.
There is (at least) one name change in the lineup. Our beloved Piston Honda has been renamed Piston Hondo. I can only assume this is to alleviate any sort of copyright problems with the motor company: “Honda”. Many of your familiar favorites are back untouched and with updated graphics. The remaining lineup includes the likes of: Glass Joe, the aforementioned Don Flamenco, Von Kaiser, Great Tiger, Piston Hondo, King Hippo, Soda Popinski and a few new fellas to bring Lil Mac to his knees.
Reviews are mixed on Amazon but I think it should be a fun game for Wii owners. Once I get my copy I’ll write a review here. There are also some great photos on the amazon site. The official website is also pretty cool but I do have one complaint. When the site loads there is a streaker jogging across the bottom of the screen–the likes of which we’ve not seen since the 70s!

Should be quite the workout if you use the Wiimote/Nanchuck. I like the Cartoony look of the characters.
I didn’t play it when Punch-Out hit the arcades in 1984, although I did look over player’s shoulders. A vid of the original arcade game for a bit o’ history… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzib6ig_riE
The little streaker guy is an homage to Little Mac’s pink jogging suit from the NES game.

Oh I got that part. Why is he naked though? That’s just wrong! 🙂 My guess is that the programmers started animating it and just thought it was too hilarious to complete.

Holy crap! They updated the site again and now you don’t see that progress bar at all and the naked jogger is even bigger!
