STEVE WIEBE is competing LIVE at E3 in the Donkey Kong World Record Event – He’s working in it now. There are chatrooms (useless) and a Live webcam! You’ll have a better time chatting live about it right here or opening up your own google chat room.
The score to beat is 1,050,200 set back in 7/2007 by Billy Mitchell.
**Updates**
- First Attempt: 923,400
- Second Attempt: Botched start. He bowed out and started again.
- Third Attempt: 653,700
- Last Attempt: Believe it or not there was a power outage. He had to start over. His final score was: 989,400.
Alas, it was not meant to be, Steve. So we’ll just have to wait a little longer for you to beat the record in public.

Game Over man, 923400. I don’t think that’s enough.
The game isn’t over until the end of the day! 😉
Wiebe is a wuss… watch expert game player (that’d be me) play at Funspot…
Star Castle… this is my best game ever on the hard chip version… http://vimeo.com/4968702
Mr. Do… not a good vid… bad camera placement… good score though… http://vimeo.com/4968909
Marble Madness… not a good game for me… scored 121,xxx the previous day… http://vimeo.com/4932256
Looks like you had fun. I couldn’t watch the Mr. Do video. It was making me sick. 🙂 How were you mounting the camera?
Did you keep your high score on Marble Madness for the weekend? Anything interesting happen out there? Did you see Brian Kuh or Todd Rogers out there? I assume that Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell were not present.
@Zoyx: I see you did well on Track and Field too. This is crazy! I searched for “Funspot 2009” on google and your Flickr gallery was the first to pop up. I also searched for “High score marble madness twin galaxies” and a post you made from last year on Atariage shows up. Quit hogging the internets! Also, your Marble Madness score kills at least 5 or so scores listed on Twin Galaxies. What does it take to get on that score board?
None of my videos I took are valid. I needed to video the boot up of the machine, and I didn’t do that. So I will continue to not have my name in Twin Galaxies.
I need to bring a tripod next time. I used that flexible mini-tripod I showed you a few months back. and placed it on top of a machine behind me. The floors of Funspot are bit bouncy. If I had a real tripod, and was shooting closer to the screen, you wouldn’t have as much shaky cam.
Yes, I did see both Brian Kuh or Todd Rogers, as well as Walter Day. Didn’t talk to any of them though. I recorded Brian Kuh playing a couple screens of Donkey Kong. I can upload that if you would like. The one guy I did talk to was Mark Apiger. He’s the guy in King of Kong that wore the glove for track ball games. I caught his eye when I was playing Marble Madness. He attempted to show me some tips/hidden bugs in Marble Madness.
Oh man. Did he show you the ways of the force or was it a forced viewing with no way out?
It was forced. Very energetic fella. Enthusiastic and a good guy. Had a tough time keeping up with him. He no longer has the 70s porn star mustache. Just re-watched King of Kong… Mark Apiger was the guy that escorted Steve Wiebe into Billy Mitchell’s restaurant, uninvited. I did not know I was talking to such a rogue. 😉
Yeah, and when you think of the circumstances under which they were all invited to Billy’s restaurant and how “they” must typically snub Mark on a regular basis, I imagine it makes a real-life encounter with Mark all the more… amplified. I suppose you should have expected to see him since you’re into the trackball games. 🙂
Billy MItchell, still a douche: http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696318/Gaming-Legend-Billy-Mitchell-Smarmily-Tweets-About-Steve-Wiebes-Failed-World-Record-Attempt.html
Yeah Billy Mitchell is a huge douche and I hate him
That article was updated S1500:
“According to Walter Day from Twin Galaxies, Billy Mitchell does not actually have a Twitter account, and someone maliciously posted this tweet using a fake Twitter account.”
P.S. Billy Mitchell is probably a pretty awesome dude. Even if a little arrogant now and again.
Even with the twitter claims debunked(it wasn’t him), he still can’t sit at the high school lunch table with us. Not enough free hot sauce will sway me!
I’d hang out with him.
I totally would. But then again, I’ve seen him in other interviews and in Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade where he isn’t (to coin a phrase) “Chumpatized” by the director for a good vs. evil slant. 😉
Well, I’m not saying he’s a good person or whatever. It’s just that I’m used to hanging out with all you douchebags so I figure it can’t get any worse. ha!
Yes, this is what’s happening.
I’m trolling your blog.
that’s right.
uh-huh.
