If you’ve been under a rock or get your news from this website you may not know anything about the Flynn Lives campaign set in motion by Disney for the new Tron movie being released in December.  I’ve been following the site regularly and reading up on different aspects of their self-proclaimed “Viral Marketing Campaign.”

Among the treats I’ve experienced thus far are:

  • Arcade Aid dot com – a fictional website that hosts repairs for classic Encom games such as Space Paranoids and Tron.
  • An online puzzle game that once you complete, you can submit a photo of yourself and a couple of days later in the mail you receive an Encom employee badge with Group 7 Clearance–complete with Encom lanyard.  (For those who don’t know Group 7 Access was required to get into the Encom facility in the first Tron movie. I got mine over a month ago how about you? P.S. It is now possible to get the badge directly from FlynnLives without completing the game.)
  • The badge you receive has a bar-code that when deciphered allows you to go to the Encom employee website and read your email and Encom company news.
  • Interviews such as this IGN video with Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) on varying websites:
  • And their most recent effort, another appearance of Alan Bradley at Wondercon:

I have to say this is ambitious marketing on Disney’s part. Tron Legacy is certainly getting the treatment we all hoped a sequel like this should get. Now go get your copy of Space Paranoids Online ASAP!

The South Park episode from a couple weeks ago had a fun Tron segment in it. A snippy.

I’m so glad the internet wasn’t around when I was a kid to make a complete idiot of me. I’d have changed my handle 6 or 7 times by the time I got to college.
