“”The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated!” ~ Mark Twain

louisAs was reported earlier on GridCycle, Ghostbusters is set for a multi-platform release in North America on June 16th. However, there is new news where the European and Australian releases are concerned. Sony has struck a deal with Atari for sole distribution rights of the Ghostbusters title in these regions. What does that mean for the members of this site? Nothing. You can still purchase and pre-order your Ghostbusters game at will for the PS2, PS3 and the Xbox 360. What it does mean is that there are going to be a lot of Europeans pissed off about the “timed release” of the game. Though it will be exclusively a PlayStation title, sources say eventually it will be released to other platforms.

Viva Ghostbusters!

Normally, I’m not a fan of online comic strips. From time to time I used to read User Friendly, the occasional PvP and was an online Dilbert follower in my early tech support days. Rarely do we plug comic websites on GridCycle but there are many out there that are actually “retro gamer” oriented or generally video-game related. And some of them are even good! Well today, if you haven’t already, you should take a look at Jefbot a webcomic that I was introduced to only yesterday when a friend sent me the link knowing it was up my alley (dot com). Go ahead and follow the link and read the following 6 comics up to today.

I think the GC Crew will enjoy it.

Steve Wiebe - Donkey Kong Jr. KingTwin Galaxies announced on April 24th that Steve Wiebe set a new world record on Donkey Kong Jr.  Apparently, it was a live televised event.  According to the official announcement at the Twin Galaxies website, the previous records were set by two other people.  The first was set way back in 1983 by the legendary Billy Mitchell who was depicted as Steve Wiebe’s nemesis in the 2007 film King of Kong.  At that time, Billy scored 957,300.  Last year the crown was stolen by one Ike Hall of Port Angeles, Washington State with a whopping 1,033,000 points.  April 24th, 2009 Steve claimed the crown for one of his favorite games of all time with the massive score of  1,139,500 points.

Long live the King of Kong Jr.

After numerous delays in development, Ghostbusters will finally arrive to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, Play Station 2 and DS this June.  Released under the Atari label (always scary), it features the voice talents of Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray who–until now–has been reluctant to be involved with any new Ghostbusters projects. It also stars the voice of Ernie Hudson as Winston and the voice of Annie Potts as Janine.

In the game you will become the 5th Ghostbuster and are basically the newbie tasked with joining the team and taking down ghosts.  The Ps3, Xbox 360 and PS2 versions have amazing, movie-quality, realistic graphics while the Wii version has been tweaked a little to look more cartoonish. Think more–“The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon rather than the film.  The Wii version also apparently has some cool motion control action.

All of the previews and gaming agencies online are reporting good things about the game.  If you search for Ghostbusters on the Google it brings you to sierra.com which redirects you to the Ghostbustersgame.com website which is loaded with trailers and other content.  Go have a look and watch the embeded youtube video below.  Note for the HD version you’ll need to click that HD button in the lower right of your YouTube window.

Finally something we can all get excited about without defending our platform of choice! Enjoy.
