So the title of this post would elude to something salacious and sensual. Not really 🙂 What I mean by Intimate Starcraft: Playing online with an alternate Gateway server to facilitate online play with your friends. There are a host of smaller BattleNet alternatives out there, and you can use a utility to add these as a gateway within your Starcraft client.
TDog and I enjoyed a couple of rounds of Starcraft on one of these private gateways this weekend. It was pretty cool to be able to intelligently chat with each other between games, and to host games without the usual BattleNet troubles of network latency, disconnects, and the like. Also, it maintans it’s own ladder, so, you can have the gratification of seeing yourself ranked amongst a smaller group of people (nothing is as depressing as being 225,956 on a public ladder, right?).
The utility for changing your gateway list is Here, and a good gateway to start with is:
216.89.225.158
ender.tog.net
When adding the gateway, use any ‘zone’ that you like (we used ‘8’). This would be a great way to organize a group Starcraft Game, and track our game stats.
