A contender for the official game of this web site. Armagetron. Just like the original Tron game, drive your Grid Cycle so as to force your opponents into a wall or trail.
This time it is running on a 3D engine, giving you a more immersive feel. This is both good and bad. I had a tough time finding the right camera angle to play. There is an option to be in the cycle, but then it is really hard keeping track of your opponents. The option I liked was to look overhead with a “smart camera” that was always following you.
The other problem I had with it is the control scheme. The joystick is used to turn you left or right… which takes some getting used to if you played the original. In the original Tron, you just moved your joystick in the direction you wanted the cycle to go… no stearing.
Once I found a camera angle I liked, and got used to the different control layout, I had a great time with the game. There is a multiplayer/online option. I may set up a dedicated Armagetron server, if there is an interest.

Zoyx: Have you played Tron 2.0?
Nope. l remember it coming out. I forgot the reason why I didn’t buy it. Must of been into other games at the time. Have you?
tron 2.0 is an excellent game. 🙂 If my computer wasn’t such a POS I might try armegetron.
Agreed Tron 2.0 is an awesome awesome game. The reason I ask is that I think Armegetron has been out just as long. It’s the open source version of the lightcycles portion of tron 2.0. From your description above it would appear the physics are very much the same as they are in Tron 2.0.
Don’t misunderstand, just because there are lightcycles in Tron 2.0 it isn’t what the game is about. The Tron 2.0 storyline picks up in the future 20 years after Tron the film. It stars Bruce Boxlietner (now on heroes btw) and has an excellent storyline. The environment is what every fan of Tron could have ever hoped for in a Tron game. You are a program. Of FPS/Puzzle/Action games around that time I’d have to rate this game with top marks.
