Let’s get the important stuff out of the way first. Yes, there will be beer. There will also be games. Lots and lots of games.

There are a couple of things I need from you guys. Again, we’ll start with the most important part… what do you want to eat? More specifically, should we have hot dogs, pizza or both? I was going to set up the hot dog roller (you know, the kind that they have at finer gas stations around the world). This would also be accompanied by chili, cheese, onions, relish, etc. I guess I’d like to know if that is appealing to enough of you or if you’d rather have pizza.

I also need tables and chairs for games to be set up on. It would be most helpful if those tables and chairs could be set up on Friday night.

Also, we should figure out what games (and display devices) people are going to bring. Please post a list of everything you could potentially bring and then we can collectively decide who should bring what (so we don’t have too many duplicates and people don’t have to haul around extra stuff).

So post your replies with the following information:

1) Hot Dogs, Pizza or Both.
2) Whether you have tables and chairs you could bring (and whether you could bring those on Friday).
3) What games and displays you could bring.

Lastly, if anyone has a small fusion reactor we can use to power everything, that would be helpful as well.

    My tentative list…
    – Slickstik computer… Mame plus 2600, NES, SNES, and Sega emulators installed. USB adapters for Atari and Nintendo controllers. A 19″ LCD monitor comes with this.
    – Colecovision w/ atari 2600 expansion + games.
    – Vectrex
    – Atari 5200 flash cart + track ball.
    – Atari 2600 games, Krok cart, extra controllers
    – Retro Duo (plays NES/SNES carts)… and a few games, I don’t have many.
    – 19″ Tube TV.
    – 6′ folding table… assuming I can get all of the crap off of it.
    – A couple of folding chairs.
    – My goth attitude

    Things I could bring…
    – NES w/4-score, 2600 (light sixer or telegames 2), 5200, 7800
    – 19″ LCD widescreen TV.
    – Track & Field arcade cocktail – Don’t have this yet… still negotiating. Might be too heavy/big.

You’re negotiating for that cocktail? Cool! Good luck with that.

  4. Zoyx Said, October 3, 2008 at 7:15 PM

Yep, we’ve settled on a price. Going to pick it Monday morning… wanna help!

  5. POI Said, October 5, 2008 at 4:08 PM

Is there going to be any beer at this party?

  6. Zoyx Said, October 6, 2008 at 10:52 AM

How’s this idea. Everybody bring a thumb drive with 80s music on it. My Mame box can double as a juke box.

  7. Madaracs Said, October 6, 2008 at 2:54 PM

Cuz if there’s any girls there I wanna do em!

  8. Madaracs Said, October 6, 2008 at 2:54 PM

Sounds like someone is trying to expand their 80s music collection. ;-)

  9. s1500 Said, October 6, 2008 at 8:13 PM

I’d go half n half with the pizzas & hot dogs.

  10. T Dog Said, October 7, 2008 at 11:17 AM

    1) Pizza Pizza!
    2) I have a card table I can bring if needed. I might have a couple folding chairs too I can dig out.
    3) nada.

I think we plan to take donations at the shindig tho it would be a good idea for people to volunteer to help acquire the goods. Maybe we should do Papa Murphy’s Take N Bakes? I also have a Costco membership and can get dogs and za for cheap.

  12. Cloudscout Said, October 7, 2008 at 3:19 PM

T-Dog, be sure to bring the TI-99/4A stuff if you can.

  13. Zoyx Said, October 7, 2008 at 9:08 PM

@Madaracs – Gadzooks!! I’ve been had. Still think its a good idea.

I am now the proud owner of a T&F cocktail. Do you have room if I bring it along? Maybe give it double duty as the Vectrex table. This cocktail can be either 40″ or 30″ tall.

I can do pizza. I would prefer chili, though.

  14. Cloudscout Said, October 7, 2008 at 9:11 PM

    Sweet!

    We’ll make room for it.

  15. Madaracs Said, October 8, 2008 at 10:05 AM

    Chili dogs!

  16. Madaracs Said, October 8, 2008 at 10:06 AM

@ Zoyx: I have a mix I made for the Retro Party on my iPod. It’s more than 24 hours of late 70s, 80s and misc music.

  17. s1500 Said, October 8, 2008 at 10:12 AM

Fun. I haven’t used a TI-99/4A in years(all emulators aside). Looks like a good opportunity to take some digicam pics of old school gear. Let’s spread the word to atariage.

  18. Madaracs Said, October 8, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Go on wit your bad self. I’ll post and updated invite on this site….

  19. Zoyx Said, October 8, 2008 at 7:24 PM

I’m kind of fearful of doing a post on Atariage. How much room does Cloudscout have?

  20. Cloudscout Said, October 9, 2008 at 12:24 AM

Yeah, let’s aim for a bigger venue for the Spring party and do an AtariAge post for that one.

  21. Madaracs Said, October 9, 2008 at 8:18 AM

I understood their only to be a few locals on AtariAge anyway. I wasn’t attempting to invite the masses.

  22. Zoyx Said, October 9, 2008 at 7:21 PM

We should rent a party room for the next one. Then we can get ambitious.

  23. Madaracs Said, October 10, 2008 at 8:07 AM

It’s been threatened. In the past for LAN parties we’ve rented rooms at the Kraus Hartig VFW in Spring Lake Park. The cost was a mere $100 for the room. They have a nice flat floor plan too. Easy to get large machines in and out. That said, with 35 people and their PCs and monitors we managed to pop their circuit breakers a couple of times.

I too have been envisioning a larger event… a cross between conventions like HamFest, Portland Retro Gaming Expo and Back to the 50s. People bring their mint machines just like they would a classic car to the show–chrome pipes and all. There would be a vendor room where locally established vendors could sell retro gaming stuff. We would rent out the space to the vendor much like the local sci-fi conventions such as CONvergence and Minicon do.

Registration of your machine would be the same as a car for a carshow. You pay, you get an “owners pack” and a parking space for your machine. Vendors would pay a fee for their table to cover costs of the vendor room.

The problem isn’t the idea. The problem is getting it organized and having enough volunteers to make it happen.

  24. s1500 Said, October 10, 2008 at 8:37 AM

I proposed a simliar big “reto graming expo” like thing for the twin cities a month ago on atariage, and got a ho-hum response, sadly. I would want it not to be so cliquey a la CONvergence though. :)

  25. Madaracs Said, October 10, 2008 at 8:51 AM

    MNRGC: MN Retro Gaming Community
    N.O.R.G.S.: NOrthern Retro Gamers Society
MNRG: MN Retro Gamers (pronounced EM-EN-ER-GEE)

  26. Madaracs Said, October 10, 2008 at 8:55 AM

cliquey a la CONvergence though. Agreed. I think I’d like to take the concepts that I’ve seen the board members and staff and convergence use and perform well and incorporate some of them into the “Fest”. Gamers are a different breed by nature and though there are a number of Retro Gamers that attend the CON, I think that an event like this would draw a much different crowd. For one, our type of event wouldn’t generally cater to the ancillary BDSM groups and other such clientele that seem to frequent the Filking, Sci-Fi/Fantasy events.

  27. s1500 Said, October 10, 2008 at 8:57 AM

MNRG = that acronym is taken by the Minnesota RollerGirls, which has their season opener next week. :) Yes keep the LARPers out.

  28. Zoyx Said, October 10, 2008 at 9:00 PM

The T&F cocktail isn’t going to make it. Not enough room, my back hurts, I’m grouchy, bad juju, etc.
