I thought we could start a post about what each of us will volunteer to bring to the 6th retro video-gaming party so we can minimize on dupe machines, consoles, games and whatnot.

I’m bringing:

  • 4 – 13″ Color TVs
  • 1 Black and White TV
  • Super Pong IV
  • Odyssey 4000 (Could use a color dial TV for this bad boy if anyone wants to bring one.)
  • Odyssey2 with ‘The Voice’. Games: Smithereens (the best of the voice games), U.F.O. and Sub Chase for sure.
  • Sega Genesis with 32X, Flight Stick with Afterburner and Probably SW: Arcade.
  • NES with some Rip Off Chinese games, some famicom classics and a few favorites. (Contra? Tecmo Super Bowl?)
  • Vectrex
  • Arcade:  Ms. Pac-Man or Tron.  Probably not both.
  • I may bring my Game Console stand too…
  • I’m going to bring a GBA SP and some controllers so we can play Pac-Man Vs.  (either on my Game Cube or Matt’s)

I think I’ll also do a podcast of the event.

Although this game isn’t expected to hit the PlayStation Network until sometime next year, there is currently a PC demo available for download. The game is by Twenty-Four Caret Games and it’s called: Retro/Grade. It’s being touted as a shootem-up in reverse. Personally, I don’t think this qualifies as a shmup. It looks a lot like Bit-Trip-Beat and other rhythm-based-games with a shmup theme. There are some interesting things to the game though. For instance, you can switch between the standard 6-Axis and a Guitar controller if you wish.

Since it opens today, I thought I’d mention a little more about Star Trek DAC coming our way next week.

This:

Will be only slightly related to this:

It turns out that the developers of the game did include the new Enterprise and Romulan ships seen in the new film but it will not follow the story you see this week (or in my case tonight) in the film. Instead, they opted to do something that hasn’t been done in recent Star Trek games: Make it fun. Allegedly the developers heard about the refresh of Star Trek and were inspired by Abrams take on the franchise so they set out to make a different kind of game entirely. Not only is it non-traditional in the sense that it is not like any other Star Trek game to date, but it also veers off where the media is concerned. This is the first Star Trek game to be exclusively download only. Look for it the middle of next week on XBox Live and in the PlayStation Store.

Some of the Penny Arcade folk redid Adventure into a 16-bit like game. An original score is added, along with some handy front-end menus. Available for download. Judging by the vids, looks really well done.

After numerous delays in development, Ghostbusters will finally arrive to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, Play Station 2 and DS this June.  Released under the Atari label (always scary), it features the voice talents of Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray who–until now–has been reluctant to be involved with any new Ghostbusters projects. It also stars the voice of Ernie Hudson as Winston and the voice of Annie Potts as Janine.

In the game you will become the 5th Ghostbuster and are basically the newbie tasked with joining the team and taking down ghosts.  The Ps3, Xbox 360 and PS2 versions have amazing, movie-quality, realistic graphics while the Wii version has been tweaked a little to look more cartoonish. Think more–“The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon rather than the film.  The Wii version also apparently has some cool motion control action.

All of the previews and gaming agencies online are reporting good things about the game.  If you search for Ghostbusters on the Google it brings you to sierra.com which redirects you to the Ghostbustersgame.com website which is loaded with trailers and other content.  Go have a look and watch the embeded youtube video below.  Note for the HD version you’ll need to click that HD button in the lower right of your YouTube window.

Finally something we can all get excited about without defending our platform of choice! Enjoy.
